Helping Hands Community Thrift Store and Furniture Bank partners with local non-profits like Pacific House to distribute proceeds from the sale of gently used items. Donations can be dropped off (or they offer pick-up service for larger applicances and furniture) knowing a second home awaits! Check them out the next time you need to de-clutter, spring clean or edit your belongings.
Many things are working well at Shelter for the Homeless. Thanks to your help we are able to:
- get people back on their feet
- offer the most vulnerable a safe place to sleep and a healthy warm meal
- partner with community agencies to ensure that no one is falling through the cracks
- develop innovative solutions for permanent housing
- help eradicate chronic homelessness among veterans across the state
But it’s time for a change…..
Our organization is expanding its supportive housing program, and this grant from Fairfield County Community Foundation supports a Program Coordinator to lead the project and manage the successful implementation of these important community housing resources.
A salute to our troops on Veterans' Day and a Thank You every day is on our minds and in our hearts. But this story really hits "home" and stirs our emotions. Two homeless veterans get new Stamford apartments and for that we are very thankful, and excited for their move! John Whitaker and George Hoffman are beneficiaries of Department of Housing and Urban Development housing vouchers.
Congratulations to our very own Elizabeth King, Case Worker at Pacific House! She is the Stamford Branch NAACP- DIAGEO A.H.E.A.D. 2015 Scholarship Award recipient. Elizabeth is set to graduate in May 2016 from Fordham University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Her work here is exemplary and we are proud to have such a dynamic and caring person helping our clients. She received her award at the NAACP Stamford Branch Freedom Fund Scholarship Dinner on October 23, 2015.
