Addressing Housing and Food Insecurity in Stamford

Navigating the Affordable Housing Crisis

At Pacific House, we continue to adapt to the ever-evolving challenges of the affordable housing crisis in Connecticut. As highlighted in a recent article by Connecticut Public Radio, our efforts to provide safe and affordable housing for Stamford's homeless population are more crucial than ever. Rob Lockhart, our Director of Emergency Services, emphasizes the struggle we face due to rising rental costs, which often start at $3,000 per month.

Despite these challenges, Pacific House remains committed to its mission by renovating older homes and providing critical support services. Our Development Director, Michelle Fanwick, notes that while we strive to secure housing for residents within 90 days, the journey can extend to nearly a year due to high rental rates. This has led to increased demand at our shelter, where 68 clients are currently staying, and we are unfortunately forced to turn away many in need.
