Flashback Friday: Reflecting on Recent Milestones and Challenges at Pacific House

Dear Supporters,

As we close out another productive week at Pacific House, we want to take a moment to reflect on some significant moments over the past few months. These updates highlight both the challenges we face and the community's efforts to support our mission to prevent and end homelessness in Fairfield County.

Homelessness in Connecticut Continues to Rise

Connecticut's annual point-in-time count revealed a 13% increase in homelessness, with 3,410 individuals experiencing homelessness as of January 2024. This marks the third consecutive year of rising numbers. More concerning is the rise in family homelessness, with over 360 households, including 677 children, in need of stable housing. At Pacific House, we continue to work tirelessly to meet the growing demand, but these figures remind us that there is much work to be done.

Olympic Efforts Feeding Our Community

During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, NBC Sports in Stamford generously donated thousands of pounds of leftover food to support our clients. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers from Food Rescue US and FLIK Hospitality Group, nutritious meals were delivered to both our Stamford shelter and Norwalk affordable housing residents. The impact of this donation is enormous, especially during the summer months when food donations typically decrease.

Sheltering Hope Amid Affordable Housing Struggles

As the affordable housing crisis continues to tighten its grip on Stamford, Pacific House remains a beacon of hope. We are proud of the efforts of our emergency services team, led by Rob Lockhart, and our development team, including Michelle Fanwick, who work around the clock to help our residents find stable housing. Yet, rising rents and limited affordable options could result in our having to turn people away. Our team is committed to finding solutions, and this year we supported more than 450 individuals with shelter, food assistance, and critical case management.

Corporate Partnerships Feeding Our Mission

The ongoing partnership between NBC Sports and Food Rescue US has been a game changer for Pacific House. Thanks to these organizations, we have been able to stock our kitchen with over 5,000 pounds of food during the summer months when donations typically dwindle. It's partnerships like these that sustain our efforts and ensure that every day, our residents receive healthy, hearty meals.
